Little halloween ghost

A few days ago the daycare surprised us with the notice that the kids could come dressed up to the daycare yesterday for a bit of Halloween activity...no obligation.

Geez, I thought in vain that I was spared of all that costume frenzy for at least another year and wouldn't have to deal with it until Kabouter was in school.   Last year they didn't celebrate Halloween.

I had no time at all to go shopping for a costume and I wasn't very tempted to do so anyway for something he'd wear once (while the little man has no concept of Halloween whatsoever).  On the other hand, I am not into any crafts:  the entire sawing , knitting, craft, ...hype is totally lost on me.  I can't get excited by tissue, needles, paint or ...  So I don't really feel able to invent and create something myself either.   A colleague of mine gave the golden tip to use one of my old white T-shirts to turn him into a little ghost.  And so I did.  We managed the decorate an old T-shirt with Casper the friendly ghost and with that we transformed Kabouter into Kabouter the friendly ghost for one day.  Much to my relief he seemed to enjoy it and wore his "costume" all day ( in contrast to the birthday crown which he refuses to put on).

Blank sheet

I have several draft posts with a title...but my mind draws blank when I want to type them. It's too late in the evening, I'm juggling too many things right now. Nothing bad going on, don't you worry. Some meetings, hobbies, work deadlines that accumulate, chores at home that have been neglected, ...

I'm off to bed now, bye bye

Lazy weekend part III: fall walk in the woods

We went back to our new trail to show Jan. I didn't bother anymore to search my "red trail" but we went back in the direction we had done before.  This time we completed the full tour instead of turning around back where we came from, as now we were 2 of us trying to push the stroller through the trail that wasn't really meant to be stroller accessible :p. Kabouter himself alternated walking (not so much) , pushing the stroller into the ditch again (not so much) and getting a ride in the stroller (truly not enough to make all the stroller pushing valuable) or getting a ride in daddy's neck (a lot).
The weather was foggy but it wasn't too cold and there was no wind. I actually enjoyed the more "mysterious" look of the woods & boglands in the fog fully.

Lazy weekend part II: Sunday morning

  • Picture 1 that I didn't take:

A little boy in a grey fluffy soft sleeping bag whining, but eagerly jumping with his 2 hands on the closure of his bed when I enter his room. "Play play, eat a bit"

  • Picture 2 that I didn't take:
Kabouter and Jan and myself all in the big bed in pyjama pretending to go back to sleep.  "MAMA MAMA light out" "Papa also light out" he commands before he wants to put his head down on the pillow. We pull the duvet a bit higher. He lays with a huge smile on his face and looks at me before turning to see Jan and to crawl out again. ( you have to be really fast to take this picture right).

  • Picture 3 that I didn't take:
Jan and I still sit at the breakfast table while Kabouter is already finished. He races around with a lot of energy and runs up next to Jan "HALLLOOOO".  When his greeting is answered, he runs around the table and stops at my chair  "HALLLOOOO" .  He puts his head in my lap while I cuddle his little body.  Then he runs to Jan again  "HALLLOOOO"  .....

  • Picture 4 that I didn't take:
We're all in the sofa and Jan and Kabouter are drawing with their fingers a drawing on the iPad. Kabouter crawls closer and closer and leans with his little body against his dad.

Lazy weekend part I: Shopping in Leuven

We're all tired from a busy week, some restless nights, and a cold that is pushing through for all 3 of us. So we are taking a lazy weekend, enjoying the lack of appointments in our agenda.

After a slow start of the day in our pyama's in the sofa, some urgent chores in the household we went to do some downtown shopping. We took our time and Kabouter could "bike" through the park & pedestrian area's.

The phone bill saga

So in the 2nd half of September I discovered that my mobile phone company was withdrawing money from my account that could not be linked to my subscription / invoices for my phone.

saga step 1: helpdesk "mobile" can only confirm me that I have a subscription for which I am supposed to pay my invoices. I only have 1 sim.  They cannot check if I have other services from the firm or why this money would be taken away from my account  (but I could also phone the "internet" help desk")

saga step 2: a written request to explain me the reason they've taken my money away , results in the swift reply:  for your sim for phone number xxxxx (not mine) at name of Mrs Goofball.
A quick phone call to xxxx resulted in a nice conversation between 2 Goofballs. Apparently I had started paying her bill during the summer.

Saga step 3: phonecall to helpdesk "mobile" confirms that there seems to be something strange and they'll investigate. Surely they'll refund my money back asap. They'd phone me back.

Saga step 4: I get an sms telling me not to pay my own open invoice during the pending investigation
(not that I intended to do so, knowing they owed me twice as much money as I was owing them).

Saga step 5:  I get an sms that the amount is credited and I should pay the rest amount
(so I wait, leaving my invoice open)

Saga step 6: I get an sms that my invoice is overdue

Saga step 7: after a couple of days I phone the helpdesk anyway to tell them to double check as I don't want any issues with my open unpaid invoice that I surely didn't pay while waiting for the credit note.  They need some study time in my file and then tell me that when I got the step 5 sms, the amount was paid on my account. There would be no credit note balancing my invoice: I simply had to pay tmy invoice as the amount was on my bank account.  Anyway, step 6 was automated, even if there was a file open on my number and they could not stop this type of warnings.
(I quickly checked on my mobile bank app and confirmed that 12 days later the money was NOT on my bank account).   I was assured it'd appear any moment now, they have 2 payment runs a week and then it could take 2 days blah blah blah.   At my request they'd make a note in file that my sim could not be blocked yet and that I wanted my money asap. But once again she told me to pay my invoice.

Saga step 8: after another 4 days of waiting and a discussion with Jan, I decide to pay my open invoice after all. After all I could then leave the next invoices open...in the mean time I had already plenty of proof that they owed me money and were working on it one way or other...just not in an effective way. I use their app to pay the outstanding amount which is much to my confusion all of a sudden a bit lower than the open invoice....

Saga step 9: a few days after having paid that undefined amount, I see my new invoice.
It has my subscription for the next month (ok), it has the full credit amount they owe me (yes!! ok) and ...it holds a fine for not paying my previous invoice in time(wtf!?). this all resulted in the weird outstanding amount that I had already paid that previous weekend.

So I phone the helpdesk again, explaining them all of the above, telling me them I am happy to see they credited the money that I had paid for someone else but due to step 4 and 5 I had not paid my invoice as instructed.  Since all of this was their fault, I'd refuse to pay a fine for being late with my payment.

She understood completely but once again: the fine was an automated step by the systems that nobody could stop.  So don't you worry, your next invoice will be credited with the amount of the fine that you've paid too much now. She had registered it, sent it on written confirmation while we were talking.

....so let's see if saga stops at step 10 with a correct invoice for my subscription - the fine I refuse to pay.

(and apart from that I'm a bit in shock that for a 1 week overdue bill they fine people with 60% of their monthly subscription value...wow, fast and out of proportion, don't you think?)

My new coat

I found the most practical coat a few weeks ago!
This is what I'm wearing now and what I'll wear next year again

This is what I'll be wearing this winter

And this is how we'll be wearing it together this spring :) :)

Birthday party

It was with quite some delay that we could gather our family to celebrate Kabouter's 2nd birthday.  (also because we didn't think of starting to organise a little party until his actual birthday).

After a rather difficult night for all of us due to a new pushing molar, we all managed to get ourselves up and ready before everyone arrived. Some of the gifts were opened before we went to lunch and a new bus and a new ambulance made the little man's day.  They accompagnied us right away to the restaurant.

We had a nice family lunch in the restored mill of the abbey in the neighbourhood and were lucky to see the mill turning.

Back at home there were more "transport themed" gifts: our family knows Kabouter's passion well. Even the cake was decorated with some cars.

And after a busy fun day, we're all ready to go to bed early.
