Is there a doctor in the room?

We started 2017 with virusses and we are breaking all records this month.
We are not playing in the snow this weekend as we had hoped. Instead we are in the sofa with a little fleece and Kabouter has a tv cartoon marathon day.  Not easy to parent children if both of you are ill but Kabouter was happy.

For the first time this month I'm also hit with fever and if I can't hang on until Monday morning (when there's a planned doctor's visit for a blood check), I might need to go to the doctor on Sunday duty tomorrow to get suitable medicaiton.  That would set our counter this month to 9 doctor's visits (including Monday's visit) out of which 4 to the weekend duty.

2 boys and a cat in the snow

Last weekend it was very cute to observe all the interaction happening between 2 little boys and a cat on each side of a window:
  • vocal communication: words or sounds,
  • lots of movements,
  • body language, ...

Working mom

I try to capture
the touch of your rose petals soft skin
on my cheek
but it doesn't stick

The sensation of your hug
moves
away with your attention span

Your laughter
resonates in
my ears get invaded by new sounds

Sweet baby smell so subtle so gentle,
it leaves my nose free.

I wave goodbye and think
you are so cute, I'd want to eat you.
(of course not)

My senses fail to take you along with me to work
but I watch your picture on my desk
all day

until we hug cheek to cheek again
and I remember what I've missed.

Made in Belgium: Berntholer

I recently heard this new wave classic "My suitor" from the (unknown to me) band Berntholer. This Brussels band has only been active for a short while. My Suitor is their main success as it had been picked up by multiple radio DJ's at this time but long afterwards the song is still used in remixes and compilations.

The other clips are find are so ....very 80ies :).

Visiting Kabouter's godfather

This weekend it was time to visit Kabouter's godfather/uncle and Jan's godchild/nephew for New Year. Both kids were well asleep in the car from our drive from the Ardennes and needed some time to become social again but after a while they were smiling, talking and playing again.

The visibility of waiting presents made the children very eager to start reading their New Year's letters. Kabouter volunteered to go first and gave an excellent delivery of his "New Year's" letter. You'd almost think he was actually reading rather than reciting his memorized rhyme.   I guess he's seen other kids read their letters now a couple of time and adjusted his performance.
He got to unwrap the plane from Paw Patrol which he has been ordering for Sinterklaas now since 6 weeks...the lucky boy now doesn't have to wait 10 months anymore :).

When it was time for his cousin to read his letter, Kabouter blurted out that we had bought a step as a present, hereby spoiling our surprise.  Our attempts to cover up, cause some doubt what was in the present failed:  Kabouter confirmed up to 3 times loudly to everyone that we had bought a step and his cousin's face was already smiling from ear to ear.  Oh well, he was happy and we've learned that little kabouter's can't keep secrets or surprises :D.

The step had to be tested outdoors and in the mean time Beertje had all attention to test some new toys ...and to demonstrate to us all that he can climb a high staircase without any issue.

Roof windows and the first plaster board walls

On Saturday morning, we took the children and crawled under the plastic protective tarp on our staircase and explored the works on the top floors.

And we saw VELUX roof windows :)
And a first room that was almost entirely in plaster board walls already
there was proof of a future toilet.
It's always good to see progress

And Kabouter chose his room ...the biggest one if the choice is up to him.

Climbing snow "mountains" in the garden

Kabouter wasn't ready to go inside yet after our sledging walk through the village, so he tired himself a big more in the garden...conquering the big snow piles and plowing with his small legs across the non shovelled garden.

When we got back in, the snow was in his ears, in his shoes, frozen into his sweater etc... despite his snowboots and pants and good jacket ;-). When you roll it gets everywhere.

He slept well Saturday night ;)

Sledging in the village

The sun shining on the white landscapes
Crisping snow under our feet
Smiling kids

... it's good here right now
